Entry #2 In the middle

Hello everyone! In this blog I want to discuss something that not many people would feel comfortable with talking about. Politics can be a very sensitive subject and several people do not want to touch the topic, however that is what I want to discuss in this blog. I think that in politics, people only see left and right. But what is right? I believe there are rights and wrongs in both parties and that leaves me in the middle.

Yes politics are controversial and it even makes me a little nervous talking about it. But it makes me wonder if there are more people out there who think the way I do, or if it is really just is "are you this or that".

I believe in human rights. I also believe in making changes to make our country a safer place. In todays days, we have neither. Our country has became a country full of crime, racism, and it really puts me to think, is this really the land of the free and opportunities? I believe that it is up until a person has different views than you and speaks a different language. For example, we are currently living proof of this. Hundreds of families are being torn apart and United States citizens are being killed all because they want to use their voice. Like I said in the beginning, I am in the middle. Do I think illegal immigration is okay? No I do not. Do I think that the government is going about this issue properly? No I do not.

In the picture above is a 5 year old little boy being detained by ICE. The article The abhorrent power of the photograph of a 5-year-old held by ICE shares more about this story.

My question is, why are we doing things the way we are doing them? Why not give the working people who just want a better life for themselves, a chance to become United States citizens starting with making the process easier and affordable? There are many illegal immigrants out in our country dealing drugs, murdering people, and stealing. Why not start with the bigger problem?

No matter what, violence is never the answer. No person should have their life taken away by standing up for what is right. There is a way to do so and if done incorrectly, then yes consequences like being arrested should happen. But getting your life taken?

It is clear that the problem is bigger than it seems because the violence is not just toward illegal immigrants but United States citizens as well. There needs to be a change and I think that the change has to start with less hate in our hearts, and "loving your neighbor as yourself".  (Matthew 22:39)

Due to recent events, I find it very hard to say what I am. I just believe in human rights and also following the law. There needs to be better and more humane ways of leading our country toward the right direction and I fear our current leader, President Donald J. Trump, is not doing enough to make a change for the better.

I see both sides, and stand in the middle, because right now, I see no right.

I hope that after reading this blog you understand what I am trying to say, and maybe you find yourself also in the middle

  1. This is a very interesting blog topic. I especially enjoyed how you stated in your introduction,
"This is what I want to discuss," because it is a very valid topic that should be discussed, regardless of how people take it. The government has been deporting people long before Trump came into office. Presidents before him deported more people than there are today, yet this is not discussed in many media outlets. Why wasn't it made into a major issue then? I'm not sure, but it should have been, just like it is today. I did understand what you were trying to say. Thank you for discussing this topic and providing your input; it was a great choice.

  2. This is a hot topic, especially in America. I'm not big on politics but I can relate to being in the middle, even though my values are conservative. It's refreshing to see someone acknowledge that both sides have flaws and strengths, and focus on human rights and empathy first. Immigration and violence made me think about the human aspect of these issues. Also, I liked how you linked this to the idea of treating others with respect and kindness. Your post encourages reflection and thoughtful discussion, which is so important in today’s political climate.

  3. Using your blog to discuss current events and politics can be an effective way to help you articulate your own ideas and engage your readers in considering them as well, as noted in the comments from your classmates above.
