Entry #10
If you are like me and love to scroll on TikTok, sometimes even for hours, then you'd know how nowadays everybody wants to have their own aesthetic going on. Everyone has different interest so aesthetic could mean different things to people. Usually what I find aesthetic is pictures of people traveling, shopping, dining, outfits, and some other things. Of course it cant just be a normal picture. It has to be good quality. So you have to make sure that if you are taking a picture of something, that the background looks good. If you are taking a picture of an outfit, you have to make sure it's a good one and not wrinkly! Oh and if you are taking a picture of some sort of mess, make sure everything is strategically placed.
I feel like the aesthetic culture on TikTok has literally altered the way we do almost everything. Seeing all these perfect things makes us want to be perfect too. The reality is nobody is perfect and every aesthetic picture you see online probably took a lot of planning and editing to come out the way it did.
I say this from first hand experience, every time I take a picture I NEED to make sure EVERYTHING looks good. It kinda sucks always feeling like you have to be perfect. And that is what the problem is. Nobody is authentically themselves anymore. It is rare to see a person make a post where they have a pimple or they are wearing a funky outfit.
The aesthetic culture has made everybody performative.
I mean, are we doing certain things because we want to? Or because we think it'll be a great picture photo opportunity for TikTok? Are you really going to that cafe to study for your exam or are you going because it is all pink and they serve a matcha with flowers on top and you want everyone to see how important school is to you? Just a thought. Of course all those things can be true but a lot of people only do things for a picture.
I think people need to relax. Enjoy what YOU love to do. Don't go out of your way to do something because it is trending and you want an aesthetic picture. If you like taking pictures then great, but only do what is true to you. Remember to enjoy while you are in the moment, don't get caught up trying to get the perfect picture for TikTok.

Your blog post intrigued me, Gensis. I stand by your point on how many people online are posers, in the sense that they do things for the associated aesthetic of it, rather than actually enjoying whatever they are doing. It's as you put it, social media platforms gave way to this poser-esque mindset/lifestyle, whether it's listening to certain songs to come off a certain way, or wearing a particular set of clothes to be perceived a specific type of way. I believe it is more important now than ever to develop a sense of self, a sense of identity in other words. It's as you've mentioned, to actually enjoy what you love to do, rather than putting on a show for public approval.
