Entry #7 Fresh

After watching the film Fresh, I started to really think a lot about what I feed my body. I feel like most people including me don't think deeper into our food like where it's coming from or how it was grown. Watching this film was really an eye opener and made me realize that we need to pay more attention to the food we consume. The film Fresh showed how a lot of our food comes from industrial farming that causes a lot of issues to the environment, animals, and humans.

I think that the purpose of this film is to expose the reality of how some of our food is grown and also show how these problems can be avoided by showing alternatives throughout the film. The audience of this film is really for all people who eat food.

The film does show the unfortunate reality of how our food is grown, but it also shows how some farmers like Joel Salatin and Will Allen have more sustainable farms and treat animals naturally. By doing so, the viewer is able to see that there are better ways of having our food grown and that a change can be made. I was really interested in how the farmer Joe Salatin rotates his cows and his chickens so that the cows can eat the grass first and then he allows the chickens to eat bugs and spread manure so that the soil can be naturally fertilized. After seeing some of the negatives in this film, this really gave me hope that there are people out there who want to do things to help the community instead of just caring for revenue.

Seeing that there can be a change, gives me hope for our future, but unfortunately I don't think that problems like monoculture will ever stop. The film Fresh talks about monoculture and how it's when farmers continuously grow the same crop over and over again which causes damages to the soil. I think this because unless this is something that is illegal, it is going to be done simply because it is cost effective. I do think that humans can pay more attention to what we put in our grocery cart and do some research on how our favorite products are grown so we can decide weather we want to keep consuming or if we need to find an alternative.

We have to keep in mind that these foods aren't good for us and the film Fresh really opened my eyes in how industrial farming is just a money grab. If these companies don't care about how they are growing our food, we still have the option to choose weather or not we want to consume. If you want to learn a little bit more about the problems of industrial farming that cause disease, pollution, and so many other problems, then you should watch the film Fresh. This film really changed my view on the importance of how our foods are grown.

Comments

  1. Great summary of the film and how it made you feel. My post on this topic was similar and it left me feeling gross with what we put into our bodies and how we don’t even pay attention. We really have no idea what is done to our food during the process to get it to the store or the restaurant.
